Real Reels: Half Nelson

I'm just gonna make this a brief post. I believe Ryan Gossling is the next "Great American actor"! His performance in Half Nelson was so intense, so realistic and perfect in each and every scene it blows my mind! His character, Daniel Dunn is a crack-addicted, yet superbly intellectual and much-loved Junior High History teacher that forms an unlikely friendship with a student who discovers his secret. Just check out this scene and then check out the movie....absolutely amazing!

I believe you're thinking Requiem for a Dream...totally different characters thou. When you look at Requiem you can't designated each character as its own entity, the way the film is put together each character is a mere puzzle or an extension of the other. They are dependent on each other for survival. Jared Leto was an unambitious crackhead who would constantly pawn his mother's tv to buy dope, his mother was an old lady who owned nothing more than a TV, a chair and a social security check. It became a never ending cycle and their character development became dependent on each other.

Gossling's character, however is extremely detailed. Throughout the movie we learn every detail on his live, he becomes a whole and absolute figure. He's a brilliant and insightful guy with people's problem. He's disillusioned by the current political state that he ends up debating politics and speaking about history in the most awkward places(while snorting coke with a hooker for example). I think this is why I'm so drawn into his character and why his performance is so well recieved, over the course we develop ginuine feelings for his and his hapless situation.
