Just a second ago I went on hulu to see if I can catch up on my missed shows from last night. Well to my surprise I came across a trailer for a new Jake Gyllenhaal/Toby Maguire film called "Brothers." The synopsis sounded eerily familiar so I clicked and watched the 2 min trailer. Lo and behold, this is another remake!
ughh... I hate you Hollywood! What I saw was the Americanized version of a BEAUTIFUL Danish film I saw a few years back similarly named "Brodre." The set up was interesting and not really gonna get into details but its about an army man who gets shipped off and captured in Afganistan during the war. His family is told he is deceased and his wife, amidst her suffering seeks refuge in her brother-in-law, a sort of lose cannon bum of a guy.
Seriously though, couldn't they just dubbed the film and release it limited in the US. I hate when Hollywood does that shit. I mean Gyllenhaal and Maguire and great actors as is Natalie Portman but I'm always let down when I see remakes, often times cause the new director would take or add something that would alter the film on some level.
Its one thing when its done from a book since it would be something only imagined and hence replaced or changed with a visual reproduction but when I already have a perfect film burned into my mind, I can't help but hate whatever possible "tweaks" may have been done.
Since Oscars season about to kick off as all our beloved drama, satire and art films come trickling down, I'm curious to see what Jim Sheridan pulls out his hat. Until then I recommend you film-lovers to head out to your dvd spot or netflix(I do not endorse piracy! :P) and check out Brodre...heres the original trailer. Then maybe you can size up both films.

Yepp. Hollywood is running out of ideas and it's just awful for those of us who actually watch films.
I feel like I've only seen remakes for the past... uhm, awhile now. It's a real shame, but there's a serious market for it. Bidness is bidness, mah friend.
